HMO Network and Referrals for Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Treatment Services

The behavioral health and substance abuse treatment network for HMSA's Commercial HMO plans includes all HMSA participating behavioral health and substance abuse treatment providers. No referral is needed for the patient to see one of these providers.

Behavioral health and substance abuse treatment must be provided by or arranged by a network provider.

Referral to Nonparticipating Providers

HMO commercial plans do not provide benefits for behavioral health or substance abuse services rendered by nonparticipating providers.

Referring providers who plan to recommend that an HMO commercial member receive mental health or substance abuse services from a Mainland provider should verify that the rendering provider is participating with Blue Cross Blue Shield by calling BlueCard at 1-800-810-BLUE (2583). If the provider is not participating with Blue Cross Blue Shield on the Mainland, payment will not be made for services rendered.
