Indications for Testing

• Patient has or is suspected of having a hearing problem and an audiogram is not obtainable because of the patient’s age (up to 3 years of age) or handicap
• Clinical findings are equivocal, and confirmation is necessary.
• There is no response to treatment.

The following conditions or indications are not considered appropriate:

• Acute otitis media
• Eustachian salpingitis
• Impacted wax
• Otitis external
• Perforation of tympanic membrane (tympanic membrane retraction or thickened or bulging membrane)

Repeat Testing

When necessary, it should be done no less than 30 days from the initial test.
