Developmental testing (procedure codes 96110 and 96111) is not covered for adults. Testing is covered for children when the PCP refers the child for the service. Normally, members may self-refer to behavioral health providers for testing. However, if a family self-refers to a behavioral health provider for this type of testing and the provider wishes to do the testing, the provider must first discuss this with the patient’s PCP and obtain a referral for the services.
