Hospice Care Payment Policy

Payment for hospice care is based on an all-inclusive per diem rate that mirrors Medicare's payment methodology. HMSA updates the rates annually and sends the revised schedule to participating hospice providers.

Hospice services must be provided by agencies contracting with HMSA. For out-of-state hospice care, services are payable if the hospice participates with a BlueCard Plan. For out-of-state hospices not participating with a BlueCard Plan, HMSA negotiates individual contracts on a case-by-case basis.
