HMSA is proud to partner with the Hawaii Tobacco Quitline in offering support and resources to members wanting to quit cigarettes, vapes, and all other forms of tobacco.

HMSA encourages members to share their intentions to quit tobacco with their primary care providers.

The Hawaii Tobacco Quitline is a FREE service that offers:

• Nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges. *
• Tools to help you set a quit date, beat cravings, and manage stress.
• Help from friendly local coaches online, or by phone or text.
• Special programs for every point in your quit journey:
  • Two-week starter kit of patches, gum, and lozenges. Choose to work with a coach or do it on your own.
  • People struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, and schizophrenia get even more support to quit and stay tobacco-free. Struggling with alcohol or drugs? We have extra support for you, too.
  • Hapai (pregnant) or just had a baby? Our friendly coaches can help you quit and stay tobacco-free before and after your baby is born. We offer nonjudgmental support during this special time, including gift card incentives.
  • My Life, My Quit for teens ages 13-17, provides confidential help to quit vaping. To connect with coaches, text “Start My Quit” to 36072, call 1-855-891-9989, or visit MyLifeMyQuit.com. Enroll and get free stuff!
  • *Free nicotine patches, gum, and/or lozenges are mailed to you. Shipping takes about two weeks.
    • Commercial plan members receive up to two weeks of free nicotine medications.
    • MedQUEST Integration members receive up to four weeks of free nicotine medications.
    • Members who enroll online receive up to two weeks of nicotine medications.

HMSA’s Preferred (Formulary) Drug Plans provide coverage for nicotine transdermal patches not available over the counter and for generic Zyban when prescribed by a physician. The QUEST formulary no longer covers Habitrol. The following limitations apply to the drug benefits for smoking cessation:

• Benefits are limited to one treatment cycle per calendar year.
• There is no limit on treatment cycles per lifetime.
• Nicotine gum is a covered benefit.
