Moderate (Conscious) Sedation

Effective March 1, 2018 HMSA will begin recognizing moderate (conscious) sedation (CPT 99151-99153, 99155-99157 and HCPCS G0500) for payment when used with a diagnostic or therapeutic procedure.

Note: Moderate sedation should not be billed by the physician performing the procedure when an anesthesiologist is being used.

Please be sure to use the most up-to-date industry-standard procedure, revenue, and diagnosis codes from the current CPT ®'', HCPCS Level II, and ICD-10-CM manuals, as recommended by the American Medical Association (AMA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the American Hospital Association.
