HMSA is proud to announce we’ve partnered with EyeMed Vision Care as our vision plan administrator to enhance our vision plan options. Eyemed’s vision plans will provide improved benefits to our members starting Jan. 1, 2024.

With EyeMed Vision Care, you’ll have new tools to help you choose glasses and contact lenses. You’ll also have access to top eyewear companies, discounts, special offers, and a broad network of vision care providers making it easier for you to get the care you need.

Here’s some information about EyeMed Vision Care.

General

Can you tell me more about HMSA’s relationship with EyeMed?

  • With the goal of improving members’ experience locally and nationally, HMSA launched a comprehensive assessment of vision partners and selected EyeMed Vision Care as our vision administrator 1/1/2022. We’ll begin offering their new vision plans starting Jan. 1, 2024.
  • Together with EyeMed, we’ll make it easier for members to understand their routine vision benefits, select glasses and lenses, and give them better value through special offers.
  • Providers will have access to real-time eligibility and benefit information for HMSA members, improving the experience for providers and members.

When will the change take place?

  • We’ll begin offering the new vision plans starting Jan. 1, 2024.

Will I receive a new HMSA membership card?

  • Yes. Members will receive a new HMSA membership card with the new vision coverage code.

How can I find more information?

  • Continue to check the Help Center at hmsa.com for up-to-date information.

Network

How can I check if my current vision provider is participating with EyeMed?

  • You can confirm if your provider is in HMSA’s vision network using the links on the Find a Doctor page at hmsa.com. (Note: Medicare members can use Find a Doctor for providers who provide medical services, such as glaucoma screenings or eyeglasses after cataract surgery. The EyeMed directory contains providers of routine vision services.)
  • These are the links to public online directories based on your plan:
  • We’re also working closely with EyeMed to expand our existing provider network. Check the directory often for updates.
  • This expanded network will give members access to more than 28,000 Mainland and international providers. QUEST Integration members don’t have international vision benefits.
  • Members will have online options for appliances such as glasses.com, contactsdirect.com, and more.
  • Members can also access various tools on hmsa.com, such as “Know before you go”, a cost transparency tool that allows members to see their frames and lens options, out-of-pocket costs, and potential savings.

Benefits

Will this change impact my current vision benefits?

  • Yes. Starting Jan. 1, 2024, your plan will have the following plan changes:
    • Members will be eligible for either eyeglass frames or contacts (not both) with no copayment, up to their plan’s allowance amount.
    • Currently, members are eligible for frames on a rolling 24-month benefit cycle. Starting Jan. 1, 2024, members will be eligible for frames on a calendar-year cycle (i.e. every calendar year, or every other calendar year, based on their plan’s frequency limitation).
    • Coordination of Benefits for routine vision exams will continue, however, starting Jan. 1, 2024, your vision plan will no longer coordinate benefits for routine vision appliances.
  • Members will get more value with EyeMed because they’ll have discounts and savings offers in addition to their vision benefits.
  • Members will have local support from EyeMed’s dedicated Hawaii-based customer care center.
  • For Medicare members, orders that are in progress will continue in the existing fulfillment workflow until completed.
