The Hawai‘i Medical Service Association (HMSA) announced today that HMSA President
Michael A. Gold is the new chief executive officer. Gold, who has served as the
company’s president since April, has been the chief operating officer for
the past 15 years.
With 38 years of health care experience working for HMSA, Gold brings an extensive
knowledge of underwriting, marketing, provider services, customer relations, account
services, community relations, and corporate planning to his position. In 2012,
he led HMSA’s efforts to meet the Affordable Care Act provisions.
“I’m honored to take on the new responsibilities and challenges this
position will bring as HMSA continues its role as a leader in health care,”
Gold said. “With the state health exchange fast becoming a reality, uncompromising
consumer focus will become a bigger priority than ever before.
“Affordable health care is important to our members. And we know providing
that without compromising quality is something we can only accomplish by working
with doctors, hospitals, and our members. Together, we can and will build a healthier
Hawaii.”
HMSA is a nonprofit, mutual benefit society founded in Hawaii in 1938. It is governed
by a community board of directors that includes representatives from health care,
business, labor, government, education, clergy, and the community. HMSA is an independent
licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
