Michel Danon joins HMSA as Chief Information Officer

The Hawai‘i Medical Service Association announced today that after a rigorous
search process, Michel Danon has joined the health plan as senior vice president
and chief information officer.
“Michel will play a major role in our work to transform health care in Hawaii,”
said Michael A. Gold, HMSA president and chief operating officer. “He is passionate
about innovation and always looking for new solutions. His can-do attitude, leadership,
and technical expertise are exactly what we need as we create a more sustainable
health care system for the people of our state.”
Danon said, “I appreciate the confidence HMSA’s board of directors and
executive leadership have in me. HMSA is changing into a faster, more competitive
company to better serve its members and I am right at home in that kind of energetic
and collaborative environment. We can overcome any challenge if we work together.”
Danon’s diverse business career encompasses an array of industries. Most recently,
he was deputy executive director and chief information officer at Sound Transit
in Seattle, the mass transit system that serves 52 cities in Washington state. There,
he led the rollout of applications that increased customer satisfaction and Web
traffic as well as the ORCA transit pass that is used by more than one million riders.
Previously, Danon was chief information officer at the science and technology firm
Fluke Corporation and he has served in leadership roles at the consulting company
Capgemini, Ernst & Young, and IBM.
He is a graduate of the French air force academy, where he earned a degree in aerospace
engineering and was trained as a jet fighter pilot. He has also earned two master’s
degrees in computer science.
