The Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) and New Hope Oahu promoted healthy
living at the first ever Community Health Expo this weekend. The organizations co-sponsored
the event to highlight health and wellness and educate attendees about available
services. The two-day event, held at Farrington High School, featured free health
screenings, health information, activities and giveaways.
Attendees could sign up for a variety of services, including HMSA’s Online
Care and the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry. The crowd also took advantage of
free glucose and cholesterol screenings offered by Abbott Laboratories and free
blood pressure screenings by HMSA’s HealthPass. The American Cancer Society,
American Lung Association, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition, National Kidney
Foundation, and HMSA’s QUEST plan distributed information while the American
Heart Association conducted CPR awareness classes.
HMSA is a nonprofit, mutual benefit association founded in Hawaii in 1938. It is
governed by a community board of directors that includes representatives from health
care, business, labor, government, education, clergy, and the community at large.
Nationally, HMSA and 38 other Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans provide worldwide
coverage to more than 100 million members.
