HMSA was instructed to end health plan coverage for former Aloha Airlines employees, effective May 15, 2008. Given the sensitive nature of this situation, HMSA is taking a number of steps to help members continue their HMSA coverage.

Although COBRA coverage for former Aloha Airlines employees officially ended on May 15, 2008, HMSA will extend COBRA coverage until June 1, 2008.

In addition, HMSA has developed and received Insurance Division approval to offer an Extended Benefit Program to provide an option to help Aloha Airlines employees continue their HMSA coverage. The Extended Benefit Program provides comprehensive medical and drug coverage for Aloha Airlines employees and retirees who lost their Aloha-sponsored health care coverage or Aloha-sponsored COBRA continuation coverage.

This program is intended to be a temporary option. Coverage under this program will continue through Dec. 31, 2008.

HMSA will also assist former Aloha Airlines employees by providing informational seminars on available HMSA health plan options.
