HMSA welcomes new chairperson and two new board members

The Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) today announced its board of directors has elected Carla J. Nip-Sakamoto, M.D., as chairperson of the board.

At its Annual Membership Meeting on May 1, HMSA members elected two new board members. The new members are Timothy E. Johns and Lisa T. Okimoto, and they replace Daniel L. Colin and Beverly C. Nagy.

Carla J. Nip-Sakamoto, M.D. – Nip-Sakamoto is an Oahu dermatologist, and has served as vice chairperson of the HMSA board for the past two years.

Timothy E. Johns – Johns is president and chief executive officer of Bishop Museum.

Lisa T. Okimoto – Okimoto is managing director of Resources Global Professionals.

The HMSA community board is comprised of 27 directors. Board members serve staggered three-year terms and include representatives from health care, business, labor, government, education, clergy, and the community at large. HMSA is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
