The Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) and Na Pu’uwai Native Hawaiian
Health Care System today presented the first annual HMSA eat healthy
Hoolaulea Molokai at the Kulana Oiwi Multi-Service Center in Kaunakakai.
The people of Molokai enjoyed many fun activities at the event, including information
booths focusing on healthy lifestyles, hula, cooking and exercise demonstrations,
as well as games and prizes.
Families also learned about HMSA’s Keiki Care Plan, a new program developed
with the state to provide health coverage with no monthly dues to the estimated
3,500 uninsured keiki in the Islands. Parents whose children are eligible signed
up for the health plan today.
In January 2008, HMSA launched its eat healthy campaign to raise
awareness of the benefits of making smart eating choices, encouraging the people
of Hawaii to eat smart, eat healthy and enjoy.
HMSA is working with different organizations across the state to promote the campaign.
Na Pu’uwai is a community-based Native Hawaiian organization on the island
of Molokai, dedicated to the betterment of the health conditions of Native Hawaiians.
HMSA is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
