HMSA’s go Kona Health Hoolaulea

The Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) and Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort
today presented the second annual HMSA go Kona Health Hoolaulea. E Ola Na Kupuna,
a health fair for kupuna, was held in the resort’s lobby and veranda, featuring
exercise demonstrations, activities and information booths with a focus on healthy
lifestyles for kupuna.
The Hoolaulea presented various activities to show kupuna how to get up, get out
and get active while maintaining a healthy diet. Healthy cookbooks were given to
those who participated in a fun scavenger hunt, and participants could come together
and exchange seeds for a wide variety of local plants.
Booths at the Ho`olaule`a also featured cooking demonstrations, beverage samples
and Hawaiian entertainment throughout the day. Other activities included diabetes
screenings, hula, singing, and more.
Organizations supporting the health fair included American Cancer Society, American
Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, City and County, University of
Hawaii – Department of Human Nutrition & College of Tropical Agriculture, Hui Malama
Ola Na Oiwi, Jamba Juice, Kona Lion’s Club, Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic
Park, Police Family Chiropractic, and YMCA Kona.
The goal of HMSA’s go Kona Health Hoolaulea was to promote the importance
of good nutrition and active lifestyles to Kona’s kupuna. HMSA is an independent
licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
