The weekend mall crowd had some extra pep in its step today at a free health fair
sponsored by the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA). Window shoppers and
fledgling fashionistas joined event emcee Kutmaster Spaz, a local deejay and host
of OC16’s Dis-n-Dat TV, for fun games and activities at the HMSA
go Maui Health Fair at the Queen Kaahumanu Center in Kahului.
The health fair was part of HMSA's go Campaign that encourages
people to get up, get out and get active. It featured blood pressure screenings
by HMSA HealthPass; health information from HMSA, Alzheimer’s Association, American
Lung Association, and Family YMCA Maui; free Jamba Juice samples; and a variety
of prizes.
Shoppers enjoyed entertainment by Taiko Drum Group, YMCA’s Ukulele Group, and Dance
International Production, based in Wailuku, which performed Tahitian, Filipino and
Hawaiian dances. Shoppers also had an opportunity to spin the HMSA go
Prize Wheel for a chance to win cool prizes.
HMSA launched its statewide go campaign in April 2005.
The campaign emphasizes better health and well-being through increased physical
activity. HMSA is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
