About 250 people attended the Hawai‘i Medical Service Association’s (HMSA) Annual Membership Meeting at the Ala Moana Hotel today. HMSA President and Chief Executive Officer Michael A. Gold talked about HMSA’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of Hawaii’s people and why understanding the state’s uninsured population is necessary to accomplish that.
“The most recent data is now eight years old,” said Gold. “One of HMSA’s goals this year will be to work with the state to update the Hawaii Uninsured Project data from 2006. By committing to this goal and working with our state’s leaders, we’ll secure Hawaii’s position as the national leader in health coverage.”
Robert S. Harrison, president and chief executive officer of First Hawaiian Bank and chair of HMSA’s Board of Directors, discussed last year’s achievements, which are outlined in HMSA’s 2013 Annual Report:
Numerous presentations, workshops, toolkits, and newsletters to help Hawaii residents and businesses stay up-to-date with clear and timely information about the Affordable Care Act and the changes that resulted here in Hawaii.
The opening of HMSA Centers @ Honolulu, Pearl City, and Hilo to give individuals and businesses convenient, face-to-face customer service and access to health plan information.
A refreshed hmsa.com and new online storefront to make it easy for people to see their health plan information and premiums, and simple information to find out if they’re eligible for financial assistance from the federal government to help pay for their health plan.
During the Annual Meeting, John T. Komeiji, senior vice president and general counsel at Hawaiian Telcom and chair of the Board’s Bylaws Committee, presented proposed changes to HMSA’s Constitution and Bylaws. Members who attended voted to approve the amendments.
