Influenza
The influenza (or flu) virus can cause more than just a sore throat and runny nose.
Every year, millions of people are hospitalized because of flu complications, which
can lead to serious illness or even death. This year, with the novel H1N1 flu pandemic,
it’s more important than ever to know the facts. HMSA has provided useful
information about the symptoms and prevention of this highly contagious virus, and
the differences between the seasonal flu and novel H1N1 flu.
Got the flu? Talk to a doctor now.
If you get the flu, you can spread it to others at home, work or school. The Centers
for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) recommend
that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone so that you don’t
make others sick.
As part of our commitment to keeping you healthy during flu season, HMSA is now
offering one HMSA’s Online Care visit per person at no cost. With Online
Care, you can talk to local doctors any time of the day or night from the comfort
and privacy of your home.
