Studies show that children who do not have health insurance get only half of the
health care services that insured children do. That means they often miss routine
visits, regular immunizations and preventive care.
And it’s more than a family problem – it’s a community problem. It requires
a community-based solution, where public and private sectors work together to care
for our keiki. One way HMSA is helping is by offering HMSA’s Keiki Care Plan.
This new program was developed by HMSA and the state to provide health care coverage
for Hawaii’s uninsured children. HMSA’s Keiki Care Plan is an individual
plan that provides medical care for children age 31 days through 18 years. HMSA
and the state will share the cost of dues for all eligible children under this plan.
HMSA’s Keiki Care Plan provides basic health care benefits needed to help
keep children in good health, including coverage for doctor visits, immunizations,
certain preventive services, diagnostic tests, emergency care, and mental health
benefits, and limited coverage for prescription drugs.
