HMSA’s Preferred Provider Plan (PPP)
gives you the freedom to see any doctor you choose with
comprehensive medical and drug benefits.
The PPP is the most popular free-choice plan in Hawaii, with
the largest network of physicians, hospitals, and other
health care providers in the state. You can select any
provider you wish, although greater benefits will be received
when selecting an HMSA participating provider, who agrees to
accept a set fee from HMSA. You’re responsible for a smaller
portion of the cost, called a copayment. Choosing an HMSA
participating doctor or hospital helps minimize your out-of-pocket costs.
The PPP includes HMSA’s award-winning prevention and disease
management programs to help you stay healthy. This includes
annual visits to HealthPass for basic health screenings and
health counseling, and Care Connection to help manage chronic diseases.
The PPP also offers access to over 500,000 Blue Cross and Blue Shield providers nationwide
while traveling on the Mainland and emergency care anywhere in the world, so you
don’t have to worry about your health care coverage while traveling.
