Welcome to go, your online connection to everything you need to get up, get out and get active.

Physical activity doesn't have to be serious, complicated or boring. You don't need a membership, strenuous workouts, special equipment, or a lot of time. Physical activity is simply making your body move.

HMSA created go to promote increased physical activity for better health at any age or fitness level.

Explore go online to learn:

  • The benefits of regular physical activity.
  • How to make it a part of your life.
  • Where to find go events in the community.

No matter your age, gender, size or health ... you need to go! It's fun and easier than you think.

Your body is built to go! Everybody needs physical activity to be healthy, yet most of us don't get enough of it. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • Over 50 percent of adults do not get enough physical activity to provide health benefits.

  • Almost 50 percent of youths aged 12-21 do not regularly participate in vigorous physical activity.

Thirty minutes of physical activity every day, even just 10 minutes at a time, can get you healthier, make you look and feel better, help prevent disease, and improve your quality of life.

Evidence shows that those who are not physically active are definitely not helping their health, and are more likely hurting it. The good news is that anyone can improve their health and well-being with regular physical activity.

Regular physical activity:

  • Is associated with fewer hospitalizations, physician visits and medications.
  • Reduces the risk of dying prematurely.
  • Reduces the risk of heart disease.
  • Reduces the risk of developing diabetes.
  • Reduces the risk of developing colon cancer.
  • Reduces feelings of depression and anxiety.
  • Reduces the risk of stroke.
  • Reduces "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides and increases "good" cholesterol.
  • Lowers blood pressure.
  • Helps people achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.
  • Helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.
  • Helps older adults become stronger and better able to move about without falling.
  • Increases heart and lung efficiency.
  • Promotes psychological well-being and reduces stress.

In 2002, one in six Hawaii residents were not physically active in their leisure time, which is an all-time low. Since 1991, Hawaii's rates have been consistently lower than the U.S. average and continue to decrease.
