HMSA is concerned with obesity and overweight, because these conditions are at the
root of most chronic diseases. Chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes
are costly, because people who have them may require medical intervention for the
rest of their lives. Chronic diseases are incurable once people have them. However,
they can be prevented or managed through a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining
a healthy weight.
Losing weight demands considerable motivation. The HMSA/Weight Watchers Hawaii program
is designed to help motivate and support members in reaching their weight-loss goals
through discounts and incentives.

coupons. In keeping with standard Weight Watchers policies, if a member misses more
than six meetings, they’re dropped from the program. But if they rejoin the
program within 90 days of the last meeting attended and complete a total of 13 meetings,
they’ll receive the final three coupons.
Members who continue attending Weight Watchers meetings after completing the program
can continue at the discounted $11 rate.
