Strong, Straight and Steady

Injuries resulting from a fall are the most common reason older adults lose their independence. Vision, equilibrium and touch sensation are the three faculties that govern our ability to balance. Equilibrium, a function of the inner ear, begins to decline as early as age 40 for some people. The Strong, Straight and Steady program teaches ways to maintain strength and balance to avoid fall-related injuries now and in the future.

This wellness program helps participants:

  • Understand the four components of balance.
  • Identify common factors that increase the likelihood of falling.
  • Assess their balance and posture.
  • Learn exercises and strategies to improve their stability.

In three two-hour sessions, we’ll teach attendees how to maintain a hazard-free home, preserve their sense of equilibrium, strengthen the muscles that help stabilize the body, and more.

The Strong, Straight and Steady class consists of three two-hour sessions and is available weekends and evenings. Mature employees can benefit from this and other HMSA classes.
