Annual Corporate Walk
Each year, HMSA participates in a different charity walk to
raise money to help others and encourage community members
to get up, get out and get active.
In March 2007, HMSA supported the National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF)
Gift of Life Festival at Kapiolani Community College. More
than 160 HMSA employees, family and friends participated in
the NKF walk and event. Together, HMSA employees and HMSA’s
corporate giving program contributed $10,000 to the NKF.
Twenty million Americans, or one in nine adults, have chronic
kidney disease. Hawaii’s rates are among the highest in the nation.
The disease may be caused by diabetes, high blood pressure, or
other disorders, and can result in kidney failure. The NKF seeks to
prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases,
improve quality of life for people with kidney disease, and
increase the availability of organs for transplant.
Care Connection, HMSA’s disease management program, helps members
who have kidney disease. Care Connection services are available at
no cost to HMSA members with kidney disease or end-stage renal
disease (kidney failure), including those on dialysis. The program
matches members with specialized clinical case managers who can help
them obtain appropriate care and services. Care Connection also
provides information, resources and tools to help them more effectively
manage their condition.
