What if I need medical care on the U.S. Mainland?
HMSA offers you different options when receiving care on the U.S. Mainland. Depending on your medical plan, you can receive services such as emergency and urgent care, or see a physician for a covered benefit.
Always carry your HMSA membership card. When you receive services on the Mainland, your HMSA membership card:
- Tells participating providers and BlueCard providers which independent Blue plan you belong to.
- Includes information the provider needs to properly file your claim for you.
To determine your coverage on the Mainland, you will need to know whether you have a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan or Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan.
Note: Please refer to your Guide to Benefits or plan certificate for information about specific benefits and provisions of your plan.
