Preventive services

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. HMSA encourages you to receive the appropriate covered immunizations and screenings to lower your risk of chronic diseases.

Visit our Healthy Lifestyles Web page to research screenings and immunizations recommended for men, women, children/teens, and seniors. For example, before visiting her doctor, a 20-year-old female is encouraged to visit the Web page, click on Women, and select the 18-39 age range to find the list of appropriate screenings. Please also check your plan’s Guide to Benefits to see if the applicable screening tests are covered by your plan.

Preventive services covered under the Affordable Care Act

If your HMSA plan has implemented health care reform provisions under the Affordable Care Act, you have 100 percent coverage for the following services if obtained from a participating provider:

Please ask your PCP at your next checkup if you are due for any of these services.

These preventive services are covered without a copayment if your participating provider bills the service in accordance with the billing instructions described in the above-mentioned medical policies. We encourage you to visit a participating provider to receive the best benefit. If you receive these services from a nonparticipating provider, you will have a copayment. Please review your Guide to Benefits for information about your copayment amounts and preventive services that are a benefit of your plan.
