Medical care on the Neighbor Islands
If you are a PPO plan member, you receive the same benefits on any island in the state of Hawaii.
If you are an HMO plan member, most HMO plans cover urgent care and emergency care when visiting a Neighbor Island. To access HMO urgent care benefits:
- Contact HMSA on the island you are visiting or by calling the toll-free number. A customer service representative will arrange your doctor's appointment and advise you of your copayment responsibility.
- Benefits include one visit to a provider's office.
- Contact your personal care provider as soon as possible after receiving services. Your provider will update your records and assist you if additional care is needed.
