Determining whether there are generic equivalents for brand-name drugs
Your HMSA formulary offers many generic drugs. Using a generic drug instead of a brand-name drug can help lower your out-of-pocket costs.
To review your HMSA drug plan formulary to see if your brand-name drug has a generic equivalent:
- Log in to My Account on hmsa.com.
- Select the View Drug Formulary link from the menu on the lower right of the My Account home page.
- You will be directed to a new Medco web page.
- You will be able to search for your brand-name drug by name, alphabetical listing, or treatment category.
- Check the Medication type section to see whether a generic is available.
Don't see a link to view your drug formulary? Check your HMSA membership card to see if you have drug coverage with HMSA. If the word Drug with a code is not listed, you might have drug coverage with another insurer and you should check with your employer or employee organization. If your HMSA membership card indicates you have drug coverage with HMSA, call HMSA Customer Relations and select the Drug option to speak with a customer service representative.
