Honolulu Theatre for Youth
HMSA has joined with the Honolulu Theatre for Youth (HTY) to teach keiki about the
importance of healthy eating.
For more than 50 years, HTY has been using theater to make a difference in the lives
of children in Hawaii. Through its sponsorship and outreach, HMSA is helping to
promote HTY’s drama education and enrichment for children and families statewide.
HMSA helped develop nutrition playlets for four HTY plays. The playlet is performed
as an introduction or conclusion to coincide with the main production, and stresses
the importance of a healthy and active life.
These plays are Aladdin’s Luck, The Music of Dolphins, Musubi Man,
and Nightingale. Each play was performed for keiki statewide at a variety
of venues in 2008 and 2009.
In addition to the playlet, HMSA provided educational handouts and posters during
each performance, featuring healthy recipes, games, information and activities.
This collaboration supports HMSA’s eat healthy Campaign,
and HMSA is proud to be part of this effort to keep Hawaii’s keiki healthy.
