Alliance for Drama Education

A program co-sponsored by HMSA to teach children about nutrition could get very dramatic – literally!

HMSA will support the Alliance for Drama Education (ADE) this year as it heads to 10 Oahu schools to help students produce plays that promote healthy eating. ADE will hold an eight-day residency at each school to direct aspiring thespians in grades four through six in a production for their schoolmates, family and friends. The shows coincide with HMSA’s eat healthy Campaign.

Students will complete workbooks based on the nutrition information they learned from the musical revue. A video sampler of the production and workbooks will also be sent to 75 schools on the Neighbor Islands.

ADE plans to launch the first residency in early April. It is expected that a total of 1,000 children will participate in the productions, which will reach approximately 6,500 people on Oahu alone.

ADE, a local nonprofit group, is dedicated to partnering with Hawaii schools to help students develop cognitive and creative talent through drama education. Themes center around important social issues, such as anger management, ecology, health and friendship, which help students focus on skills needed for life success.
