Hawaii Foodbank

Food Drive Food Drive

Each year, HMSA employees participate in an annual food drive for the Hawaii Foodbank. All proceeds are donated to the food bank just before Thanksgiving.

Employees traditionally engage in a competition, breaking into teams to see which team can bring in the most nonperishable foods and cash donations. In 2007, HMSA employees donated a total of 7,756 pounds of food and $15,300 to the Hawaii Foodbank to help feed Hawaii’s hungry.

The donations are distributed among 270 member agencies. These include programs to feed the hungry, homeless and abuse shelters, rehabilitation centers, soup kitchens, and Neighbor Island food banks.

The Hawaii Foodbank serves approximately 131,000 individuals each year. Seventy percent of Hawaii Foodbank clients have incomes well below official poverty guidelines. And many of their households include children; the Hawaii Foodbank feeds more than 30,000 children annually.

HMSA and its employees are glad to help the Hawaii Foodbank serve Hawaii’s hungry.
