HMSA’s contract offer to Hawaii Pacific Health not accepted

Last Updated: 10/17/2012 3:07:11 PM

Hawaii Pacific Health facilities may no longer participate in HMSA’s network after Jan. 31, 2011.

Hawaii Pacific Health hospitals include:

  • Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children.
  • Straub Clinic & Hospital.
  • Pali Momi Medical Center.
  • Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

We sincerely regret any hardship this situation may place on you, and we will continue to work toward a reasonable agreement. Meanwhile, we will stand by our commitment to provide access to quality, affordable health care.

If you are in HMSA’s Preferred Provider Plan (PPO) or CompMed, you may have to pay more for your hospital services at Hawaiii Pacific Health hospitals after Jan. 31, 2011. Health Plan Hawaii (HMO) members who use Straub Clinic or Kauai Medical Clinic would have to find a new health center and personal care provider (PCP).

Please note: Hawaii Pacific Health contracts for 65C Plus, Akamai Advantage, QUEST, and TriWest are not affected by this situation. 65C Plus, Akamai Advantage, QUEST, and TriWest members can continue receiving services from all participating physicians and facilities, including Hawaii Pacific Health.

HMSA has a complete listing of participating physicians on hmsa.com. It’s easy to access the listing and select a physician who will work best for you.

HMSA’s Customer Service department can also help you find a new physician.

Important changes to your health care coverage

If HMSA and Hawaii Pacific Health are not able to come to an agreement, Hawaii Pacific Health’s contract will expire on Jan. 31, 2011. Because HMSA and Hawaii Pacific Health would no longer have a business relationship for commercial members, it is important to know about the potential changes in your benefits and coverage. HMSA commercial members who continue to use Hawaii Pacific Health hospitals would pay more out-of-pocket for care.

Consideration will be given to members with special medical needs and pregnant women. We have updated our continuity of care guidelines to ensure access to care for these members.

Question of the Day

My wife and I use 65C Plus. Are we affected if Hawaii Pacific Health leaves HMSA’s network?
