Achievements

HMSA believes our members deserve the best. That’s why we strive to achieve quality in everything we do. As a result, HMSA is continuously recognized in the community and nationwide for the quality products and services we deliver.

HMSA has consistently over the years received high ratings from Standard & Poor’s (S&P), the world’s foremost source of credit ratings. HMSA’s rating is based on the association’s stability, assets, liquidity, and leading market position.

Two HMSA programs that recognize and reward health care providers for achieving a high level of patient care and service based on performance standards won the Best of Blue award from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. In 2003, the Hospital Quality and Service Recognition program received a Best of Blue award for innovations and best practices in medical and pharmacy management. In 2001, the Provider Quality and Service Recognition program received a Best of Blue award for providing effective, efficient and quality care and services based on a performance system.

In 2002, HealthPass, HMSA’s health promotion and prevention program, received the prestigious C. Everett Koop National Health Award. The award, named after the former U.S. Surgeon General, was given for HealthPass’ initiatives aimed at improving health and containing health care costs. HealthPass serves about 29,000 HMSA members a year.

Additionally, HMSA is recognized for its community service and involvement in improving health care in Hawaii, and our media campaigns and Island Scene magazine receive high honors for delivering messages of good health.
