2006 Achievements

U.S. News & World Report/NCQA America’s Best Health Plans 2006 Survey. U.S. News & World Report in collaboration with the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), ranked HMSA’s Health Plan Hawaii (HPH) among the top 75 health plans in the United States. HPH was ranked 73rd among commercial health plans in the United States based on care, prevention, treatment, and overall member satisfaction. NCQA is a national independent nonprofit organization that measures the level of patient care.

Consumer Assessment of Health Plans (CAHPS®) survey. HMSA’s Preferred Provider Plan and Health Plan Hawaii ranked high in categories measuring member satisfaction and medical care in NCQA’s 2006 CAHPS survey. HMSA ranked in the 90th percentile of health plans nationally in categories measuring patient care from doctors, claims processing and customer service.

The Honolulu Advertiser’s 2006 Best of the Best/Official People’s Choice Awards. HMSA received first place in the best health insurance category in The Honolulu Advertiser’s 2006 Best of the Best/Official People’s Choice Awards.

2006 Energy Efficiency Award. The HMSA Center received the 2006 Energy Efficiency Award from Hawaiian Electric Company Inc. in the category of Innovation in Design (Renovation). The award was based on improvements made to the building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and for the installation of advanced lighting to improve energy efficiency and safety while reducing maintenance time and expense.

2006 Outstanding Corporate Sponsor/American Heart Association. HMSA received an award from the American Heart Association for outstanding corporate sponsor in supporting the 2006 Heart Walk.

2006 Walk to Cure Diabetes. HMSA received an award in recognition for being the presenting sponsor of the 2006 Walk to Cure Diabetes by the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.

2006 Easter Seals Gingerbread Competition. HMSA received second place in the corporate category at the 2006 Easter Seals Gingerbread Festival competition, a fundraiser for Easter Seals Hawaii. Proceeds from entering the competition go to support Easter Seals Hawaii.

Ilima Awards. Island Scene magazine received Ilima awards from the International Association of Business Communicators for:

  • Recipes for a Healthy Hawaii Annual Report (annual report, three or more color publication)
  • Island Scene magazine (external publication, three or more color)
  • Gotcha Campaign Spots (television commercial)
  • Legislators on the Move (film/video)

Pai Awards. Island Scene magazine received Pai awards from the Hawaii Publishers Association in the illustration (coated stock) category for the following articles:

Pele Awards. HMSA received Pele awards from the Hawaii Advertising Federation, which recognizes the best in advertising and design work in Hawaii:

  • “I Remember When” (illustration campaign)
  • You Old Bag (television commercial under $10,000)

Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), Hawaii Chapter. Island Scene magazine was a finalist in the SPJ Hawaii chapter’s Excellence in Journalism awards in the page design category for “Eating with One Mind.”

Telly Awards. HMSA received a Telly award for the following TV commercials:

  • Gotcha – Fifi
  • go – Ballroom
  • go – Street dance

The Telly awards honor the best in television commercials and programs and video and film production.
