2005 Achievements

Hawaii Business Magazine’s Best Places to Work. HMSA ranked 12 out of the 25 companies that made Hawaii Business magazine’s list of best places to work in Hawaii. The ranking is based on results from surveys completed by the companies and their employees.

2005 Secretary’s Innovation in Prevention Award. HMSA, the Hawaii state Department of Education, and the University of Hawaii received national honors for the Fun 5 program, a local program designed to help combat childhood obesity in the Islands. The 2005 Secretary’s Innovation in Prevention Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was presented to Fun 5 at the Prevention Summit meeting in Washington, D.C.

Consumer Assessment of Health Plans (CAHPS®) survey. HMSA’s Preferred Provider Plan and Health Plan Hawaii ranked high in categories measuring customer service in the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) 2006 CAHPS survey. NCQA is a national independent nonprofit organization that measures the level of patient care. HMSA ranked in the 90th percentile of health plans nationally in categories measuring claims processing and customer service.

Health Cares About Domestic Violence Award. The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline recognized HMSA for its commitment to stop domestic violence.

Pai Awards. Island Scene magazine received the first place Pai award in illustration from the Hawaii Publishers Association for “The Unsung Heroes of Medicine.”

Ilima Awards. Island Scene magazine received an Ilima Award of Merit in illustration from the International Association of Business Communicators for “The Unsung Heroes of Medicine.”

Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), Hawaii Chapter. Island Scene magazine received an Excellence in Journalism award from SPJ’s Hawaii chapter in feature writing/short form for “All Consuming.”

Hawaii’s 5-O. HMSA received an award from the American Institute of Graphic Arts Honolulu Chapter for the HMSA Community Cookbook (Top 50 Graphic Design).
