Na Maka o Papahanaumokuakea
Na Maka o Papahanaumokuakea will develop the Maona Farm Project, which
is creating a community food system that integrates food production, processing,
distribution, and consumption to improve the environmental, economic, social, and
nutritional health of South Kona.
The core objectives of this project are:
- Provide a weekly community event that will provide a source of affordable, locally
grown fresh fruits and vegetables, other goods, and free educational resources.
- Increase productive agricultural land from 1 acre to 2.5 acres by the end of 2013,
which will be an outdoor classroom to local school groups and community organizations/individuals.
- Conduct research and provide training in traditional, sustainable agriculture and
community food systems.
- Provide employment and training to youth.
